The State of Virginia and the City of Virginia Beach sued the Department of Defense yesterday in an attempt to keep the Navy's East Coast "master jet base" at Oceana Naval Air Station.
The lawsuits, filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., challenge a 2005 federal Base Realignment and Closure Commission order to move the base to the former Cecil Field Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla., and challenge a ruling by the defense department inspector general's office that the state and city failed to meet a requirement to keep the base.
