Theres no evidence that a church burning like the one depicted ever took place during the American Revolution. The Patriot while good entertainment lacks historical accuracy.

Cowpens was called something else in the movie, maybe "Fort Wilderness" was based on Ft. Nessesity, or some other F&I War battle, perhaps.
