BAGHDAD, Oct 4, 2006 (AFP) - A US soldier was killed near the northern
Iraqi city of Kirkuk by enemy fire, the US military said on Wednesday.

The soldier, who died on Tuesday, become the ninth to be killed in the last
two days, a dramatic spike in US casualties which since the March 2003
invasion have reached 2,724 according to an AFP count based on Pentagon
figures.
