BAGHDAD - A US soldier has "died of wounds sustained in action" in the
western Iraqi province of Anbar, a statement from US headquarters said
Sunday.

No more details were released about the death, which brought the total
number of US service personnel killed since March 2003 in the Iraq campaign
to 2,608, according to an AFP tally based on Pentagon figures.
