BAGHDAD, Nov 3, 2005 (AFP) - A US military policeman was killed in Iraq Thursday near the town of Baquba, north of Baghdad, the military said . The soldier "was killed in action while conducting combat operations in the vicinity of Baquba. The cause of death was an improvised explosive device," a statement said. The death brings to at least 2,030 the number of US military personnel who have died in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion, according to an AFP tally based on Pentagon figures. It brings to eight the number of US personnel killed over the past three days. Three soldiers were killed in separate incidents Wednesday, two by roadside bombs and a third after being wounded in a grenade attack. Two marines were killed when their Super Cobra attack helicopter crashed on the outskirts of Ramadi, located 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of Baghdad. Al-Qaeda in Iraq claimed Thursday to have shot down the chopper. And two GIs were killed on Tuesday.
