BAGHDAD, Oct 28 (AFP) - A US soldier has died of a wound suffered in a
makeshift bomb blast, the military said Friday.

The soldier was hit when "his patrol struck an improvised explosive device
Thursday in south Baghdad", a statement said.

The death brought to 2,005 US military losses in Iraq since the March 2003
invasion, according to an AFP tally.

The official Pentagon count, last updated on Thursday, remained at 1,996
military personnel killed and more than 15,000 wounded since the start of
the war.
