BAGHDAD, Iraq_An American soldier has been killed in fighting northwest of
Baghdad, the U.S. command said Sunday.

The soldier was killed Saturday when insurgents attacked his patrol with
small-arms fire, the military said.

Further details on the incident were not available and the name of the
soldier was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
