U.S. soldier dies when vehicle is hit by roadside bomb in western Iraq

BAGHDAD, Iraq - (AP) An American soldier died when his vehicle
was hit by a roadside bomb in western Iraq, the U.S. command announced
Saturday.
The U.S. statement said the soldier assigned to the 2nd Marine
Division was killed Friday in a an explosion near Hit, 140 kilometers (85
miles) west of Baghdad. No other details were released.
The name of the victim was withheld pending notification of kin.
There are several Army units temporarily assigned to the 2nd Marine Division
in western Iraq.
