BAGHDAD -- Three U.S. marines were killed Sunday in Iraq's western Anbar
province, the U.S. military said on Tuesday.

"Three marines, assigned to the Regimental Combat Team 7 died on Oct. 8
from wounds sustained in enemy action while operating in Al Anbar Province,"
the military said in statement.

Earlier, another soldier was killed on Monday in eastern Baghdad when
insurgents attacked his vehicle with small arms fire, the military said in
separate statement.

The names of the soldiers are being withheld pending notification of next
of kin, the statement added.

About 2,735 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U. S.-led
invasion in March 2003, according to media count.
