According to the first question, his question equates to this : "Is there further need for the US Marine Corps.?"

Open your mind. Yes indeed there is need for the US Marine Corps. Doctrines change, tactics change, the US Marine Corp evolved to a point where it has seen most of the action since World War II.

I never trained with the RN but I did with the Aussie Navy. Of course most of my time was with FMF Pacific.

Oh, well.
So can i ask does the US marine core have any specialist sub units, like we have fleet protection or comanco group.

Well it's Marine Corps. And yes they do.

Force Recon
Bn Recon
ANGLICO
FAST
Radio Recon
Surveillance Target Aquistion Platoons (STA SNIPERS)
Remember, the FR Companies and Bn Recon have been "melded"......missions are still the same, but different training/op structure.

We are off topic, but my boy is a daredevil like his pop, walked at 9 months and now thinks he can jump off the backs of chairs....his mother is going to kill me.
