The third joint exercise of the Indian Army and the United States Army will take place from September 12 to September 27, at the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School (CIJW) in Mizoram.

The exercise will be aimed at increasing the inter operability between the armed forces of the two countries, as also assisting in fostering a greater bond between India and the United States.

According to the Indian Army, the US forces are keen to learn from the Indian Army’s experience in counter insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeastern states over the last half a century.

The US team will be arriving in Kolkata on September 10 and will be leaving for CIJW, via Silchar in Assam on September 12. The team will be returning to the city on September 29, and will leave for America the day after. An American delegation led by Lieutenant General John Brown, commander general of the US ARPAC, will also be visiting the CIJW on September 16 and 17.

Apart from the US, CIJW also trains officers and personnel of friendly nations, including Afghanistan, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Singapore, South Africa, Myanmar, Iraq, Ghana, Botswana and Kazakhstan.

Meanwhile, nations like Uzbekistan and Mongolia, too, have expressed an interest to have their officers and personnel trained at the elite counter insurgency and jungle warfare school at Vairengte in Mizoram. Recognised as a Centre of Excellence for Counter Insurgency, the establishment provides training for the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, the Indian Navy, the nation’s Para Military forces and Central Police Organisations.

Very interesting. Thank you for the info.

I was recently reading up on the Reforger Joint Exercise during 72'.

I'm glad to see a forging of Nations who realize the coming conflict(s) in this Century. I think India and the USA will make a formidable alliance. I'm also glad to see India testing triple stage ICBMs capable of exoatmospheric delivery of multiple warheads. Both Countries are battle tested and both have fielded forces more than adequate for most threats.

Indo-US joint naval exercise begins

India and the United States will conduct a bilateral naval exercise 'Salvex' off Kochi from today focussing on 'diving salvage' operations.

Held as part of the regular 'Malabar' series of bilateral cooperation, the exercise would conclude on September 23, an official release said here on Sunday.

The US naval ship 'USS Safeguard' is participating in this exercise while a naval diving team and INS Matanga would represent the Indian side.

The exercise would include the deployment of combined underwater salvage teams comprising naval divers from both the countries.

'Salvex' is the first combined diving salvage exercise between the US and Indian Navies.

Extensive survey, salvage and diving exercises would be undertaken during the exercise.

The harbour phase of the exercise would include training and professional discussions between the US and the Indian Navy.

The US Navy personnel would also visit the Indian Navy's diving training establishment at Kochi.

Apart from this, the crew of the visiting ship would take part in various sports and social activities.

India is the worlds most populous democracy, as long as they stay that way then the US should have vested interest in ensuring somekind military security for India.
