ON THE SECOND DAY of the ground war, my air cavalry unit was deep inside Iraq, blocking the enemy's retreat from Kuwait City. Most of the Iraqi soldiers quickly surrendered, and in their bunkers we found plunder from Kuwait including TV sets, satellite dishes and recliners. On their TVs, inaccurate maps suggested that our troops were arriving with the Marines in Kuwait City.

"Here I am," said one buddy with a laugh, "sitting in a recliner in my enemy's bunker, watching myself on live TV pull off an amphibious landing 500 miles away!"
