Post; Teamwork!

WHILE IN THE SPARS (the women's branch of the Coast Guard) in 1944, I dated a pilot who was the handsomest man on the base. I wasn't the only one who thought so, because he received many phone calls from women. My roommate was the base telephone operator, and a true friend she proved to be. When she took calls for him from the competition, she would say, "Lieutenant MacLane isn't here now. Would you like to speak with his wife?" By the time he and I were married, nearly a year later, the phone calls had stopped.
