It's encased in steel and unless you ingest it you won't get sick.

i know..

but didn't radiation can penetrate steel and other lots of things?

Depleted Uranium isn't much more radioactive then background radiation. It doesn't matter what type of material your radiation protection is either. Feathers would do just as good as steel if you had enough of them. The reason things like lead are used is because those things are very dense and don't require much to stop radiation. Basically it's just how much mass you have between you and the source of radiation, not the type of material.
