In Britain you would have needed to have a few years of service in another Regiment and they would be looking for men that have seen action close up and personal. They don't recruit straight from the street

Please correct me if I'm wrong: I believe it is the same way in Canada, you have to serve a unit for 5 years before JTF2 looks at you. I'm not sure about CSOR.
