A derivitave of the 80's software piracy scene. Originally "elite" was used to show status on a BBS. Commonly the people who cracked the software, or had sysop access on a board would be referred to as Elite. Later it became common to just use "leet." Due to it being great to be known as leet, newbies started adopting the term and using to describe themselves, often with numerical variations. Wrong, any linguist worth his salt will tell you that one variety of a language is not better than another. To buy into the myth that a certain accent equates to being lazy is not right. Some varieties are certainly more standard than others. Higher status groups tend to impose their behaviors, including language on others claiming that theirs is the standard one. Whether you approve of that or not, it doesn't mean that the standard is any more historically consistent or more correct. Each region within a given country has its own social stratification and its share of standard and nonstandard speakers.
What is standard American accent? It really depends on who you ask. Ask someone from Michigan or someone from Brooklyn. How about asking someone from rural Georgia or someone from Texas. I think you just may get different answers.
IG, how about the Italian language? Are there differences in the way Corsicans and Sardinians speak Italian? How about the Sicilians? I'd bet there are.
Anway I speak English (American style), school taught French(13 years), and some Vietnamese and Spanish. I can understand a bit of Portuguese and Pig Latin
