I enlisted in the US Army because I wanted to serve my country and also gain a leg up in society. The US Army helped me out with college, but that is just a side benefit. My reward from the US Army is the pride in knowing that I sevred and defended what I cared for.

| | Cowards is cowards ... infoQuote:
I can see them now, they would be blubbering before they took two steps towards our enemies. ONCE A COWARD ... ALWAYS A COWARD. (Period). That is the real reason why they ran to Canada ... all the other reasons they gave is so much manure. I agree with bulldogg ... "If Canada protects these people the US should cut them off from all the assistance we provide non-gratis for the defence of Canada. No offence intended to the members of the forum from Canada". By allowing these cowards to take refuge in Canada, Canada has taken a public stance on Iraq. Backing these cowards is the same as backing our enemies in Iraq. Keep in mind ... these idiots in Canada that are backing these cowards are the same blockheads that were in favor of designing and building a memorial to the Vietnam deserters. Dang Chief, tell us how you really feel. Quote:
The political asylum angle is what bothers me. They are not targets because of political malice and persecution. They are targets of public and private ridicule because they have made themselves such. The US government is not going to "persecute" them. The US military will prosecute them though. I know it sounds like a matter of semantics but it really isn't. Quote:

I am with you ... the fact that the Canadian government will even consider granting political asylum to soldiers who have fled the battlefield or run from their duty during a period of conflict, is very disturbing to me. At no time have I read or heard of a single case where an individual who has fled to Canada being a target of persecution or subject to the death penalty for their actions. YES, upon return to US soil these cowards will be prosecuted, sentenced (some to prison time) and then will be booted out of the military with a BCD. To be even MORE blunt, during the Vietnam War, I felt the very same way as I do now. No matter what war you are talking about, when a supposed friendly nation allows military deserters to shelter in their country instead of returning them to face the justice they so richly deserve ... I question whether they are the friends that everyone thinks they are. As far as I am concerned, the ONLY things these cowards deserve is our utter contempt for their cowardice, a courts martial, a finding of guilty as charged, a long sentence behind the walls of 'grey city' busting rock, and then a Bad Conduct Discharge. (Nothing more and nothing less). That was what Vietnam deserters deserved but never got ... political expediency was the rule back then ... let's not allow it to happen this time.

G'day all. No disrespect to anyone and I admire the pride and protection everyone has for their country, but I just want to know for all those who say 'cowards , traitors etc.' who has been to Iraq??Importantly I am not supporting the deserters just as someone who has been there I wouldn't mind knowing thats all. cheers |

Well, I haven't been to iraq. But I've been to Afghanistan. I've shed blood and I've lost friends to both conflicts. We went and did our jobs. But there are some that lie, cheat, and steal. And those are the cowards that flee into Canada.

Yes mate there has been and always will be cowards in the world. I'm lucky to work with people who have long been able to discharge or have worked hard to get where they are, and I am happy to be in a specialised role I just know what it's like to rely on people who don't want to be where they are and it's not a good feeling. An un-focused soldier is a danger to himself and others around him. Just my opinion and again I'm not supporting the runners I just like to look at the bigger picture. cheers |

Constitutionally in Canada you have to be given atrial and review for deportation regardless of the reason why. That being said I think we should shoot them at the border ourselves. Vietnam was a different sotry altogether, and I have no problem with draft dodgers, I woudln't want to be serving with people so un motivated and cowardly as them to begin with. Ducimus: we lead The difference between bravery and stupidity is timining.

You don't have to be military or ex-military to recognize what these yahoos are guilty of ... they volunteered to serve and when the going got a little rough they ran ... that's called cowardice and being a traitor. I have respect for you and nothing but contempt for those who ran.
