BAQUBA, Iraq, Aug 7, 2006 (AFP) - Six Iraqi soldiers were killed and another
15 wounded Monday when insurgents attacked a checkpoint near Baquba,
northeast of Baghdad, police said.

The soldiers killed one insurgent and seized a large quantity of weapons as
they repulsed the attack, police said, adding that other gunmmen escaped.

In a separate incident, two civilians were wounded when seven mortars
slammed into Sayda district, also near Baquba overnight Monday.
