Well most of the big industrial names in Korea do more than just make cars.
But yeah it's the car company. When South Korea used the M-16, Daewoo was the main manufacturer.
Obviously the clip intake is almost identical to the M-16. Apparently the gas blowback system has a few things in common with the AK family. Maybe they felt this was more combat reliable.
