I dont know if there is still hatred amongst the 2 nations. But I think its safe to say there is definately some political rivalry. Ever since communism collapsed, every major international "flare-up" that the US has been involved in, russia was sure to be against. Look at Bosnia, Kosovo, Desert Storm, Somalia, and the current war in Iraq. Not saying thats entirely Russias fault. The US has been a little nosy in regards to Russias dealings with Chechnya. Its not our business how Russia treats chechnya. Only after the school shootings did Putin begin to endorse US policy on terrorism. I wonder if this is some kind of power brokering between Putin and Bush. Putin saying well back you if you back us? It makes sense to go along with it from bush's perspective. He needs all and any international support he can get now.
