I can read some Japanese and Korean, sometimes, that is relevant to what I do. This looks kind of Chinese. I know folks who could translate it. If the 13th can't do it, I'll show it my folks and see what they say.

Actually, if you can launch the characters at me alone, such as in a message, I can translate somewhere online for ya, as you can do also.

It's Kanji, actually, not Chinese or current Japanese text.

The back says, in literal translation, "Accomplishment of your lifelong desire." Tai Gan Jo Ju. The front is simply my name, Richard, and my Dan status, which is below the picture (as they always are )

The patch is an American flag on my neckline and the one personal Dojo patch I am allowed off the sleeve, which is the POW memory.

The little time I have spent in trying to learn some calligraphy, this is what I was told. I'd love to be able to devote more time to it as it is fun, I like it very much. Maybe someday. I haven't practiced, or studied the calligraphy part for about ten years now. I refuse to do it with just anybody, I like to make sure that what I am doing is being critiqued by someone worthy of doing the critiquing.
However, we better stay on topic here as we have gotten way off track from withdrawal and I personally, am sorry for that to the powers that be that may see this.

It was interesting never the less.

Learned the Chinese characters... they vary slightly between China, Korea and Japan. Depends on the characters but the majority tend to be much the same.
I can't remember them anymore... just one of those things I never use so I learn it then forget it, repeat process...

I did some research on this. It would appear that I owe you an apology, as it most certainly is NOT Kanji. I was assured it was, but according to every other source (including yourself) it is a variation of the old Chinese characters.

I never did tell you what it said:

Tai Gan Jo Ju. Literally interpreted, Accomplishment of Your Lifelong Desire. The front vertical characters are just my name, Richard, literally translated (I forget what my name means, though).

I always knew what it said, but I thought it was Kanji.

I stand corrected, and I do apologize.
