Post; Presidential Chinooks?

I go to college just a few miles from Bush's Crawford ranch and I saw something interesting today. Marine 1 and 2 where flying in the sky today, which was awsome to see, but also there where 2 twin-engine helos that I think where Chinooks flying in formation with them. I saw all four helos twice, going both towards the airport and then away from it about 4 hours later. Anway, I was wondering if any of you knew why Marine 1 and 2 would be flying with two larger helos?

there CH-46D helicopters, they are apart of HMX-1 presidential support group. there are several possibilites some being that they were carrying high end support or the president was on the Aircraft and they have 3 as decoys, i dont know but thats what i would think.

You guys are correct, I haven't seen a Sea Knight in real life before.

By the way, I was surprised at how big Marine 1 and 2 are... I kinda' thought they'd be like the size of a Huey but those guys are really quite large just to transport 1 guy

Anyway, I'm still interested in why there where CH46Ds in with Marine 1 and 2. I mean, not much of a decoy seeing as they're completely different aircraft... that'd be like mistaking a B-52 for an F-14. I would have thought the prez would have cobras and apaches in an escort instead of heavy transport helos?

Logistics birds. Carrying gear and personel would be my guess.

Why do they still have Sea Kings as presidential Helicopters. You'd think they would have upgraded by now. I know I can't really say much for the Canadian military, as we have just upgraded recently.

No I doubt it. Sea Knights are Medium lift. They'd have to sling load it. CH53 Super Sea Stallions are the heavy lift helos.

I always felt safer on a Sea Knight as opposed to CH53E. The whole tail boom failure thing the Super Stallions had in the 80's gave me the willies
