| Tribuni Angusticlavii | Peoria, AZ "The City of Peoria began as a small farming community near Phoenix in the 1880s. William J. Murphy’s vision of fertile farm lands fed by water from the Salt River became reality with the completion of the Arizona Canal in 1885. Once this canal was completed, Murphy travelled east to interest people in settling in this new community. He was successful in catching people’s attention – over 5,000 acres (20 km²) of land in the new district was purchased by citizens from Peoria, Illinois. Four families from Peoria, Illinois were among the first to move to Arizona to occupy and work their land. The founders decided to name the new area Peoria to bring a sense of home to this unfamiliar area. Residences in the new community quickly sprang up, and by 1888, the population of the town was 27. A school and Post Office were established by 1889. More people followed the original families and Peoria continued to grow as a farming community. The farmlands were fertile and the people made a good living, despite having to battle swarms of red ants and the occasional rattlesnake in the kitchen. By 1910, the city's population was 300, and by 1920, the population had reached 2,370. The population did not grow too much until the 1990s, and in 1998 it had reached 87,048 and in 1999 was 101,235. Peoria was incorporated as a city in 1954, with boundaries covering one square mile (2.6 km²) of land. The warm climate and small-town atmosphere of Peoria continued to attract people, and still do today."

| 100% Space Shuttle Door Gunner | Miami Lakes, Florida. USA Miami Lakes is a former census-designated place and incorporated town located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the former CDP had a total population of 22,676. As of 2004, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 22,688[1]. The development was constructed by Sengra, now known as The Graham Companies starting in 1962 on land that was formerly occupied by the dairy of Florida State Senator Ernest 'Cap' Graham. The Grahams stated for many years that it would be a 30-year development but they are still developing 43 years later. The original Miami Lakes development, east of the Palmetto Expressway, was master planned by Lester Collins with curving tree-shaded roadways and numerous curving lakes which are unusual compared to most surrounding areas with treeless streets on a square grid and rectangular lakes. This original development, which is on the east side of the more recently designated Town of Miami Lakes, has neighborhood shopping centers, tot-lot parks, and a town center named Main Street. A significant portion of Miami Lakes is still owned by the Grahams, mostly apartment buildings, shopping centers, office buildings and still undeveloped land. Former U.S. Senator Bob Graham, younger step-brother of family patriarch William "Bill" Graham, is one of the owners, and the late publisher of the Washington Post, Katharine Graham, had a share by marriage. Philip L. Graham even had a Miami TV station (WPLG) pick their station call letters after his name. Geography Miami Lakes is located at 25°54′42″N, 80°19′30″W (25.911672, -80.325067)GR1. History The Town was Incorporated in 1793 and was formerly the "south precinct" of the Town of Braintree. Randolph was named after Peyton Randolph, the First President of Continental Congress. Randolph was formerly the home of several large shoe companies. Many popular styles were made exclusively in Randolph, including the "Randies". At the time of Randolph's incorporation in 1793, local farmers were making shoes and boots to augment household incomes from subsistence farming. In the next half century, this sideline had become the town's major industry, attracting workers from across New England, Canada and Ireland and later from Italy and Eastern Europe, each adding to the quality of life in the town. By 1850 Randolph had become one of the nation's leading boot producers, shipping boots as far away as California and Australia. The decline of the shoe industry at the beginning of the twentieth century led to Randolph's evolution as a suburban residential community. Boot and shoe making has been supplanted by light manufacturing and service industries. The town's proximity to major transportation networks has resulted in an influx of families from Boston and other localities who live in Randolph but work throughout the metropolitan area. Although Almere Haven does not have its own railway station, it is well connected to Amsterdam and the rest of Almere by a good bus rapid transit system. Almere Haven has a small harbour with ferry connections to the Dutch mainland, and is surrounded by large groves of poplars containing buzzards, foxes, small deer, and owls. The closest wooded areas are Het Beginbos and Waterlandsebos. Almere Haven features the most idealistic architecture in Almere, when the goal was to build a model city on the newly reclaimed land of Flevoland. The city was planned before increasing population pressure in Almere and rising property prices caused compromises on the original vision. All housing developments are built to provide views of greenery and open spaces, and each group of houses is clustered around a little park, usually with easy access to the surrounding forests, so residents of Almere Haven do not have the sense of living in a crowded urban area. Almere Haven does not have the inconveniences of busy traffic and car pollution and road noise because all roads are cul-de-sacs connecting to a well-hidden ring road that provides the only car access in and out of Almere Haven. The bus road system also forms a ring and most residents are no more than a few minutes walk from a bus stop. [edit] External links
