Im not sure I agree, many tactics that the military use its very usefull. Plus those in the above picture arn't there to hunt down shoplifters

That police unit has used their tactics and knowlage in a very senseble way.

Its a Anti terrorist police/military unit which, in the loss of terrorists hunts down prison escapes, and are used in some hostage situations, mostly the ordinary police takes care of that.

Becoming to much like MP units? If you are refering to the SWAT, ESU, SERT, or ERT teams dressing in BDU's and Kevlar helmets and carrying AR-15's or MP-5's. Those are "special" units with certain missions.
Military Training vs Police training? Police aren't trained to use lethal force' thats for the military? Less than lethal? I ain't gonna raid a meth lab with a taser and a can of OC. Nor am I gonna try to shoot a gun out of your hand.

Law Enforcement responds to percieved or acknowledged threats with the best resources it can deploy. Be it a Patrol Officer or a tactical one.

i think it's a good idea for an overlap. certain areas of police training should be para military like, ie SWAT. but with the changing international scene military units should get police training also. it's plain and simple, some situations require aggressive lethal tactics, others require a softer less lethal approach.
