In the Army a 55B (what is now a 89B) is an Ammunition Specialist and 55D (what is now a 89D) is an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist. I was 55D, and know something about 55B, because a lot of 55B's were people trying to go 55D and just couldn't make the cut and were on the same base with us down at Redstone.

55B's move Ammunition around, they issue it, they guard it, they stack it, and they unstack it. We called the 55B's "BB Stackers"... in a good way.

It is not that so much that you will get to shoot the Rounds you issue, or move, or guard, but you will get to guard it, move it, and issue it.

55B's do however drive a really cool forklift, which would no doubt transfer into a high paying job once out of the Military.

Redstone is a nice base.... but, don't read too much into the whole destruction of unserviceable munitions and emergency destruction of munitions using Modernized Demolition Initiators, as EOD will be in charge of such a function, unless the entire ASP has been ordered destroyed, then I know I would not wish to be anywhere around the damn place.

Oh, unless there is shooting going on, as the Army does not wish to put EOD techs in danger of just being shot, so, while major combat operations are ongoing usually other people take care of the destruction of unserviceable munitions job, like Engineers, but I'm sure I could have talked a 55B through it over the radio if it would have ever came up.

Here is a nice DA PAM outlining some of the EOD and other MOS Range Tasks and requitrements....

Are females allowed to be Combat Engineers?
They were not when I was an Engineer before going into EOD, and I had not heard the Military changing its policy on the matter.
And aviation electronics technition and construction do not have much in common, as one is very high tech, and the other low tech.

What kind of scores did you get?

I would think your Recruiter would know right off the top of his head if a Combat Arms job is open to females or not, as there are not that many of them to begin with.
Be careful around Recruiters, they are under a lot of pressure to get people to sign up, and sometimes, well some may like to make things seem like they are along the same lines as what you would want them to be, but they are not.

You cannot be a combat engineer. It is considered combat arms. I highly suggest checking your recruiter and possibly trying another one. If you are trying to be a high-speed woman MP would be the closest thing to a combat branch. There was a woman MP who put a serious hurting on some insurgents a year or 2 back while pulling convoy security.
