CAMP PENDLETON -- More than 200 Marines and sailors of the 3rd Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion will return to Camp Pendleton this morning after completing a seven-month deployment in the African nation of Djibouti.
The battalion served as the security force for Camp Lemonier. Its members screened more than 202,000 vehicles and 412,000 personnel entering and exiting the camp. They also conducted more than 160 joint patrols with the Djiboutian army.
Besides maintaining security at the base, the battalion provided humanitarian assistance to the local populace.
Service members helped build a water distribution system, repaired schools, and refurbished buildings and electrical infrastructure.
