Parts shortage grounds rescue helicopters


Cormorants have troubled history

A lack of parts has sidelined most of the air force's search-and-rescue helicopters on the West Coast, forcing maintenance crews to scavenge components from other choppers.
Two of the Cormorant helicopters at Canadian Forces Base Comox on Vancouver Island have been sidelined because of the parts issue. A third Cormorant is also not flying since technicians have been stripping parts off that aircraft to keep the base's two working Cormorants airborne.
At one point, the Comox base had only one working Cormorant. Aircraft from the base handle search and rescue on the West Coast and in the Rocky Mountains
