Payments to disabled veterans should increase by up to 25% as part of an overhaul to compensate a servicemember for lost "quality of life," the Veterans' Disability Benefits Commission said. The government benefits system that provides millions of injured veterans with $30 billion a year in payments is too focused on earnings losses, the congressional commission said.
Its 2˝-year study concluded that the Defense and Veterans Affairs departments fall short in providing mental health care and timely disability payments.
