AP - Growing violence in Pakistan is being closely watched by U.S. military officials, who are concerned that the instability could further strengthen al-Qaida strongholds along the country's border with Afghanistan, a senior Defense Department official says.

In any event - the Pakistan border region with Afghanistan must become the subject of our microscopic attention and consideration of intense action, to plug this great hole in all our endeavours in that region. It should be faced as an extreme priority. They are sitting laughing at us. We must stop presenting our troops as the Taliban's Aunt Sallys.
