One of the chaps I fought with after WW2 was at Arnhem and he got the Military Medal for knocking out three German Tanks with a Sten Gun. The tanks had driven up in front of their trenches and were shelling them at point blank range and his mate was blown to pieces beside him. The Tanks were supported by a Company of German Infantry. The chap a Private Millward grabbed a sten gun and some spare magazines and charged the first tank climbed up on it stuck the sten gun through a observation slit and emptied the magazine into it killing the crew and he repeated this twice more and then made it back to his trench unmarked by the hail of machine gun and rifle fire that had been hurled at him by the infantry
