Hello. Here I'll be posting news about projects as I find new ones.
Lets get started..

The Hippo
USMC, got yer new delivery vechicle? Well theres a project of APC, currently being developed by local producer of our AMV Patria. Aim is to make it bigger, and to make it float better. Heres the article, have fun:
Hippopotamus to a pair of Rosomakiem

Greg Hołdanowicz

In July, AMZ Kutno plant is to begin assembling the first prototype of Heavy Floating 8x8 armored wheeled Transporter (CPKTO 8x8) - a hippopotamus. It is a vehicle built under a project financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, elected in December contest for the implementation of development projects. Created from scratch, without resorting to the existing chassis, as was the case in earlier studies AMZ, or boars, and aurochs Turow. A vehicle with an unladen weight of approximately 21 tons, a maximum permissible weight of 32 tons and a payload of five tons (the weight and buoyancy to 26 t!) is supposed to be complementary - not competitive! - For the WZM Wolverine. Attempts hippo works should begin in late 2011 and 2012.

Computer Vision CKPTO 8x8, or hippopotamus

Hippopotamus is responsible for developing the consortium, consisting of a leader - AMZ Kutno, and the Military Institute of Engineering Techiniki (WITI) in Wroclaw, Military Institute of Armoured Technology and Automotive (WITPiS) in Sulejowek, Military Technical Academy (WAT) in Warsaw, the Industrial Research Institute (PIMOT ) in Warsaw and Gdansk University of Technology.

In its first incarnation, most urgently awaited CPKTO hippopotamus would be replaced in the draft circular conveyor engineer reconnaissance (KTRI) Tuja-K previously used Lynx transporter, provided by the Military Establishments Poznań Automotive (formerly of IBM-5). The research showed us that it is impossible without a drastic deterioration in operational characteristics (including mobile and buoyancy), pushed into Rysiu all specified by the bosses of Engineering equipment and systems. Although the hippopotamus is mainly formed as a heavy vehicle is flying, it also can be used in future as a carrier of combat systems (anti-aircraft missile launchers, erratic minelaying systems, etc.), the diagnosis but also as a vehicle logistical support and control of hazardous materials.

9.5 meters on the water

The project described is formed CPKTO Technology Demonstrator (multi-purpose armored platform) of high mobility and high payload. By using a newly developed armor (including deflector podkadłubowego), high-tech composite protection equipment and systems to ensure it has a crew of maximum possible degree of ballistic protection and mine.

Hippopotamus is to be equipped with a large hydraulic ramp entrance at the rear. Drive in water to ensure efficient production of propulsors British company Ultra Dynamics / Drawings: AMZ

The design is characterized by a hippo, versatility and the ability to quickly adapt the interior, depending on the type of activities conducted. There is an alternative to Wolverine, and its complement in the areas (applications) that require specialized buildings, often heavy and space consuming equipment and appliances. As practical experience has shown (a and intuition should prompt) unbridled stuffing the necessary equipment for the next available platform in the country - whether in the Rysiu whether Rosomaku - led to a significant reduction in the basic parameters of the vehicle, putting into question their ability and tactical sense to use total to undertake the tasks set for them. Hippopotamus is to have a total length of approximately 9.5 m, height 2.82 m and a width of 2.88 m. For comparison, the Wolverines have a length of 7.77 m, height about 2.36 m, width 2.83 m.

The designers of the AMZ assumed that underlying hippo chassis will be equipped with high mobility 8x8 drive with at least two torsion axles (axles provide Timoney Technologies), Deutz diesel engine TCS 2015 V08 with a capacity of about 600 km that ensures the maximum torque available within 2700Nm. Used to be 7-speed Allison automatic transmission. The vehicle will be equipped with ABS, Central Pumping System Circles, insert-proof (for wheels of size 16.00 R20) and a winch.

Because of the need to adequately balance the vehicle when working on the water, the engine will be located in the vicinity of the center of gravity of the vehicle. In front of the vehicle will be driver's and commander, the rest of the crew will operate at the rear. The whole solution is a bit like the Turkish system transporter FNSS Pars 8x8x8 (cousin of U.S. vehicles, developed by the company GPV).

The vehicle has achieved on dirt roads, speed limits of 100 km / h. Hippopotamus is to have a range of 650 km roads and 300 km off-road ability of wading depth of 1.2 m, the ability to overcome obstacles to the vertical of about 40 cm and a width of crossing trenches 2 meters hippopotamus has to be able to ride the heels up to 30% and the angle of the invasion of 60%. Angle of approach and landing shall be no less than 40 °.

The body of the vehicle key is to be made of steel armor with extra spatial composite armor. It was assumed that it is designed to provide ballistic protection level IV according to STANAG 4569 - that is to protect the 90 -% probability of firing missiles from the effect of anti-vehicle 14.5 × 114 mm B32 from a distance of 200 m at a speed of 911 m / s. For a vehicle equipped with a self-defense is to be remotely controlled weapon module - currently OBRSM Kobuz ZSMU-1276C1, and the warning system opromieniowaniu SSP-1 Obra-3 launchers and 81 mm smoke grenades. The vehicle will be also equipped with optical systems (cameras and thermal time), supporting the work of the driver and crew - most likely the camera will be used for observation of dead zones at the front, the rear zone shadowing and observation of the environment (as in Rosomaku).

The big challenge is certainly a matter of buoyancy (and achieve the required 10 km / h on the water). Recall - permissible maximum weight of 32 tons, 26 tons of buoyancy - in Rosomaku these figures are, respectively, 26 t and 22.5 t tests related to optimization of the hull structure in terms of buoyancy are carried out in collaboration with the centers of the shipbuilding industry - the model tests in waves and still water were carried out at the pool model of the Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology Gdansk University of Technology.

To provide buoyancy in the cases of overloading the vehicle will be equipped with an additional source of buoyancy. Used to be pumped additional modules attached to the hull of the transporter with quick (probably the panels produced by WAT and Lubawa, shown during MSPO 2010). These modules in the form of cassettes will contain elastic shell filled with gas with a length adapted to the needs, will be placed symmetrically on both sides of the vehicle. During the movement of the vehicle on land, will provide an additional cassette cover the increasing ballistic resistance of the vehicle against the effects of fire, shock wave and shrapnel caused by the explosion of an explosive, explosion, or loads of improvised mines.

Even at the stage of computer simulations and model tests determined to be the level of vehicle safety, that is meant to minimize costly experimental studies and the risk of the research team (and keep the work schedule.)

A lot like PARS, but larger.

Sauron (LoL)

Sauron (in Elvish - obnoxious) is the evil spirit, lord of Mordor, a character from the mythology of Middle-earth, the land of JRR Tolkien, in which he play out his most famous novel. One of the forms they assumed, was the all surrounded by flames on a cat's eye pupil. In Poland we have Sauron and his eye - so called creator of the device that is installed on a wheeled armored personnel carriers Wolverine, specially designed for use during the mission in Afghanistan. It has a crew vehicle permit the detection of improvised explosive devices (IEDs - Improvised Explosive Device and UXO - Unexploded Ordnance) without leaving its interior.

Ooookay, if the South Africans chose to swap their Wolfs and Casspirs for that it must be good.
