Post; One Good Turn Deserves Another...

AFTER THE SURRENDER of German forces in World War II, our Army unit was to return to the United States from Naples. As we were boarding ship for home, one of the men was limping bravely up the gangway, using his rifle as a crutch. "Soldier!" shouted an officer on the deck. "What do you mean using that weapon in such an unmilitary manner?"

The GI turned and replied, "Sir, I've carried this rifle through basic training, through most of Italy, and now I'm on my way stateside. I think it's about time this rifle helped carry me!"

Obviously, a "butter bar" type rebuke.

Get some sleep, LT. You must be workin' too hard if ya missed that I was referring to the officer, as "butter bars" are always Second Lieutenants or Ensigns.
