Post; Not Guilty

The editor of the Norwegian christian magazine "Magazinet" was found not guilty by the Board of Professions for Newspapers (PFU) for violating the ethics of the Norwegian press by printing the Mohammed Cartoons.

In a memo by the Board of Professions they express the long tradition of cartoon printing in the Norwegian press and adds that the copy from Jyllands-Posten printed "are a part of a story regarding the relationship between the freedom of speech and Islam and therefore the presentation do not have any offensive form."

I would like to know what's going on in the other countries where these cartoons were publicated. Has there been any law suits or actions taken by the legal system or by the Islamistic groups? Do you believe the freedom of speech has been damaged in Europe?

Very good news. Freedom of speech has been protected. And the media won't give the news much publicity.

Although I am glad they were found NOT GUILTY, I think they didnt committ any crime in the first place that should be tried for.

Swedish authoritys closed down one homepage with the support of SÄPO and our former foreignminister. Also in Finland 2 persons may be jailed for even putting the pictures on their homepage, of course freedom of speech has been permanent damaged inside Europe. But there was no suprise for us that study this unslaught it was just a question on when and not if it would happen. Now politicians and the intellectual elite togheter with their freedom hating friends all over the world will use other words for putting the freedom of speech to the archives. You can call it what ever you want but forget freedom of speech in a public sence anymore. That is ancient history friends. Next step any proposals? What will be used as a pretext to kill the next pillar of this so called western community? As If I would care, when no one else does, or perhaps they do but they dont think so that kinda gives it all nice shimmer of soap opera to it all.

In Holland they saw it as "much ado about nothing"! The whole affair is blown over and nobody got persecuted. Maybe we are still as tolerant as we hope we are? But I doubt that greatly, but the cartoon-business left no significant traces.

And it is indeed funny and ironic that Muslims use western values and laws to fight us.

The very laws and values they have no respect for!

Not funny or ironic I think. A smart enemy learns to use your weakness against you. This is in fact very instructive as to the state of affairs in Europe.

True words Bulldogg and Phenix, true words.

What is of great concern is that the media, at least in Norway, have partly introduced "self censorship" on what they allow to print or not on the topic of Islam. Not that the respect for Islam is greater than before, but it has been shown that certain Islamistic groups will use violence and threats of violence to make their point clear, and editors of our newspapers simply do not risk 50 threats of murder for an article that for a minor part within can be seen as offensive. It is not worth it... Do you see where this circle is going?

Another issue of great concern on the domestic level is that some of the Socialistic Parties are willing to persuade the limitation of freedom of speech on Islamistic topics, by actively using the Board of Professions and other legal organs to limit the press.

I am not optimistic about the situation, and the political developments in Sweden recently seems to be introduced "per sub rosa" to the neighbouring countries.
