Navy or Marines?

Hey, I'm 18 years old and will be graduating from High School in May. I want to join the military to do Intelligence and eventually work in the Department of Defense. I've narrowed it down to the Navy or Marines but from there I can't decide and I was hoping some current or retired sailors or Marines could help me with my decision.

That would fall more under a Scout or a grunts duties. We pass the intel up to higher so the number crunchers can do thier thing. You won't find many intel guys manning a OP. What you are describing is surveillance. From what I've seen is the front line guys gather the raw intel and the MOS intel guys take the small pieces and put them into a understandable total package.

I meant like gathering the information on a certain person. Taking what the Recon Marines and interpretting it then briefing people on the target....right?

This post sounds like intel.

I misunderstood and thought you meant you wanted eyes on.

No....I'm looking into 0231 Intelligence Specialist in the USMC and I'm just wondering what people think of that job. If its interesting and what jobs I'll be able to get after my 5years.

Actually in order to be an 0230 mos you have to get a Top Secret clearance. These security clearances are very lucrative in the civilian world. On the leatherneck.com forum there are 0231s taking about being offered six figure salaries on ETS.

For a 20 year career which would be better? Navy or Marines? so far from people I've talked to I've heard Navy is better for long careers...more chances for promotion
