By Jayne Clark
The nation's first museum dedicated exclusively to World War I opens Dec. 2 as an expansion of the 1926 Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, Mo.
The new 30,000-square-foot National World War I Museum is underneath the memorial, a 217-foot tower that previously had two adjoining small museums. The new facility houses more than 49,000 WWI artifacts, the largest collection outside Britain's Imperial War Museum. Most have never before been exhibited.
One highlight is a three-story screen that projects a sound-and-light show of war images. Information: 816-784-1918; libertymemorialmuseum.org.
