Post; Napolean and the Batterie des hommes

When Napoleon was overseeing the artillery at the Siege of Toulon, he had one battery that remained unoccupied because of it’s dangerous proximity to the Allied Forts. Recognizing this, Napoleon put up a sign that said Batterie des hommes, which mean Battery of Men without fear. Soon volunteers swarmed to operate the cannon.
