I think it's sung to the tune of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic".

I'm familiar with a variation of it called 'Blood on the Risers,' which is an American paratrooper song.

He was just a rookie trooper and he surely shook with fright

"Blood on the Risers" is indeed sung to the tune of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" but the version I heard the 82nd Airborne Chorus sing has different lyrics than the ones quoted above.

We've got one that's almost the exact same, but it's called "The Flying Fortress". It's around here somewhere, I'm just too lazy to find the link.
