December 12th, 2005

BAGHDAD, Iraq - (AP) A statement circulated Monday and believed
issued by an insurgent group said fighting would continue regardless of this
week's parliamentary elections, residents of a Sunni neighborhood said.
The statement, distributed in the Sunni stronghold of Azamiyah, was
not signed by any group but it was written in a linguistic style used by
Islamic extremists.
The statement said Sunnis could use the Thursday parliament election
to fight corruption and make some political gains but the insurgency would
continue.
"There is no problem with taking part in the elections but I don't
want to say it is an honorable election," the statement said. "Still,
fighting will continue with the infidels and their followers."
Although most Sunnis boycotted the Jan. 30 election, many of them
intend to vote this time.
