News article: Legitimizing Terrorists

Regarding the March 8 front- page story "A Kurdish Society of Soldiers":
It was extremely disturbing to read an article so sympathetic toward one of the world's most infamous and deadly terrorist groups, the PKK. This article could serve as a propaganda instrument for the PKK, which is declared a terrorist organization by not only the United States but the European Union and others.
PKK members, portrayed in the article as humane fighters in an epic struggle, have committed acts of brutal terror that have cost the lives of tens of thousands of Turkish citizens, among them teachers, engineers, villagers, women and children.
Objective reporting would have also addressed other PKK crimes, such as arms and drug trafficking, extortion, human trafficking, and money laundering.
How many more civilians must die before such romanticizing of a terrorist organization becomes unthinkable?
Nabi Sensoy,Washington
The writer is Turkey's ambassador to the United States.
Editor's Note: The article by Joshua Partlow appeared in the Current News Early Bird, March 8, 2008.
