Post; Legacy of Angkor Wat and Ancient Kmer

There was an ancient empire in Indochina anciently. Apparently, this was a vast and powerful empire. It was them that built Angkor Wat, the largest religious structure on Earth. They were Budhist, but I have been able to find little else about this ancient empire. What is known of them?

The amazing thing is that you have such an enormous temple complex sitting right in the heart of one of the smallest and most undeveloped nations in the world.

If I remember correctly the Khmer had a religion based on hinduism at the time they built Angkor Wat... Worshipping shiva (god of chaos, destruction and rebirth).

Is there any knowledge of how large their empire was?
