Doesn't sound as prestigious mate and perhaps there was some self-limiting governance to the scope and time for JTF-1 that is to blame for this.

JTF-1 was disbaned after the first gulf war because Canada simple didnt need it. Then a new JTF was created (hence the name JTF-2) because it took over the RCMP's ERT team and it was used as a Special Forces unit. They did reraise JTF-1 that why its called JTF-2. Hope this clears it up again.

Canada is in the process of starting a new special forces unit called JATF (Joint Action Task Force) which will be apart of the Special Operations Task Forces. This unit will be larger than JTF-2 and will do similar missions and operations but they won't quite be as good as JTF-2.
