i personally, as a jew, believe god had some sort of role in the maccabean rebellion but he did not help because we were "his people" but because at the time we deserved his help for various reasons.
thats very much a theological debate and besides the point, im curious as to how the judean army/irregulars were armed/trained at this time. thats all.
