Post; Jewish GI at Nuremburg

Soldiering for Freedom is a fantastic new book, a compilation of letters by Herman J. Obermayer, a staff sergeant during WWII who, through well placed connections and luck, had a front-row seat at the Nuremburg trials. He talks about his life in the military as "the only Jew many guys had ever seen" and his very liberal (in the classic sense) views on race relations and Zionism. He was educated at Dartmouth before joining the Army and wrote hundreds of letters home talking about the military schools he attended and his experiences in Europe before and after V-E Day.

Excellent read, excellent Fathers' Day gift.

Interesting. Wasn't Henry Kissinger a lawyer for the prosecution or some such job at Nuremburg?
