| | Iranian Parade in NYC infoIt is very nice! --------- President George W Bush Sends Nowruz Greetings I send greetings to those celebrating Nowruz. Nowruz marks the arrival of a new year and the celebration of life. It has long been an opportunity to spend time with family and friends and enjoy the beauty of nature. Many Americans who trace their heritage to Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Central Asia observe this special occasion to preserve their rich heritage and ensure that their values and traditions are passed on to future generations. This festival also reminds all Americans of the diversity that has made our Nation stronger and better. Laura and I send our best wishes for peace and prosperity in the New Year. GEORGE W. BUSH Source: Office of the Press Secretary ---------------- Press Statement Sean McCormack, Spokesman Washington, DC March 20, 2006 Nowruz Greetings The United States would like to extend its warmest greetings to all who celebrate Nowruz, the Persian New Year. Nowruz means "new day" and marks the beginning of spring. It is one of the oldest traditions in Iran, celebrating not only a renewal of nature, but also a renewal of friendships and the forging of new ones. In celebrating this new day, we should be reminded of Iran?s ancient civilization, which has a proud history of tolerance and respect for human rights. These values helped shape a nation that has been in the past at the forefront of the region?s quest for democracy and freedom. Today, Iranians continue to struggle for democracy, freedom and the rights denied them by an autocratic and repressive government. We salute the efforts of the many in Iran ? women, students, journalists, and others ? to secure their rights. The people of the United States convey to all those who celebrate Nowruz our best wishes for a New Year filled with peace, prosperity, and understanding. 2006/284 http://www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2006/63447.htm Last edited by phoenix80; March 21st, 2006 at 15:18.. |

How better to introduce a political spin on something than to couch it in well wishes. Why can't they just say something along the lines of what the president said rather than make it into a political statement too? But other than that, best wishes and (Happy?) Nowruz to those that celebrate and observe. Quote:
