Is an Iranian missile attack on Bagram AFB possible?

I recently read an article claiming that Iran was targeting US bases in the gulf area. They mentioned Bagram AFB in their article.

If this threat would occur, and Iran launched non-nuclear missiles at Bagram AFB, would it be a guarenteed success?

What countermeasures does the base have to protect against missiles? (E.g. Patriot Missile SAM) Do these countermeasures work 100% everytime?

Thankks for your opinions!

Not sure that an asset like that is even in the AO. What's there is designed to deal with "small" stuff like 107s and mortars.

Probably not going to give you info on the defensive capabilities of an active AFB in a combat zone...over the internet...to an anonymous person...asking a very intrusive question...this isn't suspicious at all!

OPSEC buddy, look it up, live it, love it, and then apply it.

I'm not asking the specifics, honestly, would Iran really hire someone to go onto this site and ask questions?

I'm wondering does the AFB have the capability to destroy missiles. I've heard that the Patriot Missile System SAM can in fact target missiles as well as aircraft, is this what they will be using if a missile does in fact target the Base?

Have you any idea how to collect information of intelligence value?
Some questions, for obvious reasons, will not be answered.

Stefan,
What is your interest in an active AFB defence?
Are you set to deploy there?
If so you will get a chance to see first hand what is there and what is not.

I doubt YOU Sir are being payed by the Iranian goverment to find out if such an attack is a viable option.
Proffessionals are usually alot more subtle then you in making such inqueries unless they are dumbarses.
Sad thing is, most of the dumbarses in this conflict are allready dead.

HOWEVER, even enemies of the coalition owns and knows how to operate computers, disregarding how crazy that may sound to you, they may even be able to go online and log in to a totally OPEN forum for the world to see.

Think, then post.....think, then post....think...

KJ sends.

This is possible because it's a common knowledge that Middle East countries are rich and US will benefit in both ways when they wage war.

Jesus Christ guys. No, I am not set to deploy there, and am not even active Military. I am under 17, I like to create scenarios depicting battles.

It's simple really. I could write one of my short stories and type "Iran attacks US! Missiles hit Bagram AFB!" etc. etc.

Forget about any Base with US marking.

Pretend there is a military base, doesn't matter what kind, of any country. An enemy country targets it with a scud missile. What exists in this world that can engage missiles from the ground?

Thanks.

Patriot could and has done in the past... that is a land based system. Sea based SM3 or SM6 ... just Google Anti Ballistic Missiles.

I think you need to lose the attitude. You are not entitled to this information, members will help you of their own volition. If you have several experienced soldiers in here telling you the same thing about operational security, it's not because we are trying to be secretive or give you a hard time. It's because there are very real threats out there and believe it or not, this site is likely on a watchdog list somewhere. If you want information on weapons capability you could very easily look up any information that the public is allowed to know about. Outside of that, you won't get too much out of most of us because we don't like doing childrens work for them, and we don't like putting out information that can help out our enemies in any way.

I personally resent the attitude you're giving us. You think you know better than us what qualifies as a legitimate question and answer in dealing with operational security. Then you get incredulous when several of us tell you to cool it and that we cannot give you much. Simply so you can write fantastical short stories on your own time...What do you think we do in the military? Do you think professional soldiers are prone to give out systems capabilities of current active combat outposts in warzones? Do you think we like to put the information out there for a VEN (Violent Extremist Network) to pick up and use to kill our soldiers down range? Or perhaps you think we are stupid and will spill our beans because we are automated robots incapable of progressive or even simple emotions or ideas. We certainly are not doing it to amuse ourselves.

Bottom line....lose the f*cking attitude kid.

Maybe the best way to eliminate such a missile threat is to destroy the launch platform.

Finding the platform,

And dealing with the political and military repercussions is the complicated part.

Iran is till posturing and has not yet harvested sufficient plutonium from the heavy water reactor at Tehran University. Iran had 600 grams of Plutonium in 2004.

To put it bluntly their mouths have exceeded their actual capability. Iran is engaged in low level stuff like terror bombings in Iraq and Thailand to try and incite ethnic or religious conflicts around the globe and at that level they are succeeding famously.

Yossarian, the best way to prevent the attack would be to have our troops leave Afghanistan.

I said missile threat, not Irainian threat.

As for the political aspect of the region I already realized that.

Iran had major Coalition forces on two of it's borders. Knowing it cannot win in a conventional stand off I would be grabbing straws with nuclear weapons as well.

Every time you hear western media b##ching about Iran you never hear that bit.

Fortunately for them it seems most Americans don't have a clear image in their minds of what a map of the Middle East looks like.

Yes, you're right. I should have thought better when writing this. I was just frustrated, and shouldn't have let that judge my posts here. I highly respect what all soldiers do and plan to join one day.

The post wasn't mean to target any american base, but more of a scientific 'what-if' situation. What counter-measures are there to non-nuclear ballistic missiles. But, even if that is personal information, I will not pursue anymore.

I couldn't find any results on Google, that's why I came here.

Anyways, a HUGE apology on my part, and stay safe out there.

Stefan.

This is how you find out the answers to your questions.

1. Join the armed forces and swear in.

2. Go to an acredited college for 6 years after your service and get a masters in aeronauctical engineering.

3. Pound the pavement for half of your life taking low end jobs in related fields, write a truck load of politicians and rub shoulders at as many corporate job fairs as you can carry yourself to.

4. Somehow use your military experiance and education back ground to write a "ground breaking" paper on a theoretical concept of missile defense.

5. Get hired by a large defense contractor.

6. Push back your retirement to pour coffee for superiors for the rest of your adult life, gain exeperiance to become the chief engineer or military relations specialist of said contractor company.

And Voila! You now have your answer.

At which point you would have sworn an oath to your state of service, signed a impressive amount of legal documents swearing silence on sensitive subjects. And most likely made a few more oaths of integerity as well,

And upon the first sign of blabbering on about what ever missile interception system you are crowning as your lifetime achievement, you will most likely be placed on a watch list for about half an hour, long enough for you to be whisked away, tried and sentenced to spend the rest of your life in maximum security.

Hope this helps.
