Iran captures intruding US drone over Persian Gulf waters

Lastly the best guess of what happened was it was electronically attacked jammed. Reverted to dumb dumb mode attempted fly home or the place it last had good reception where would do hot laps until it ran out of fuel zeroise and crash into the ground. If it recognised it was being attacked it would zeroise and fly itself Into the ground. Seeing as it wasn't a scorched wreck it's more likely to be the former.

They are programmed to return to base if there's any malfunction.

If it is please tell me why the US president requested Iran to return back a damaged drone which doesn't have any useful thing for Iran? a new RQ 170 price is 6 million dollar.

Errr, they wanted it back because it's US property and doesn't belong to Iran?

And in your last supposition you at least have accepted the Iran electronic jamming power even against a drone like RQ 170.

Why haven't they brought down any more drones then?

Depending on circumstances ghey are programmed to:

return to last waypoint

hold at point and commence ever increasing circles in an attempt to connect

circle and start to gradually lose altitude (managed descent)

default to nearest safe harbour (ie friendly recovery loc

Then you have to consider how autonomous the mission was. If it lost connection/ had a malfunction Cynon during a period of manual control option 2 may have been the default.

The answer to most of what else that has been said is diplomacy and safety .

Why not have a charge built into the thing it is unsafe.

Why did they request it to be returned cos that is diplomacy .

Why not send an f15 200km into Iran to take out a malfunctioning drone .Diplomacy...

Actually more likely to have been a malfunction. Was a little zealous with my accusations of Iranian hacking. As it is pretty much impossible and the idea of GPS spoofing only works if the INU fails...

Iran can consider send it to China, let us detach it.there will a Chinese improvment version after two months.
Deal ?

Sadly china doesn't have the support capabilities to make a drone like that a "capability". They could make a copycat drone rather easily but you wouldn't be able to use it to its full potential.

Rockwell Collins has won a three-year contract from the Office of Naval Research to develop technology for the Modernized Integrated Spoofer Tracking program, according to a company statement.
“This program will help assure that essential high-accuracy navigation and timekeeping services are available to weapons platforms and military users while enabling warfighters to identify potential threats,” said John Borghese, vice president of the Rockwell Collins advanced technology center.
The contract calls for developing technology and prototype system concepts that will locate and classify an adversary’s attempts to interfere with GPS signals and disrupt military operations.
According to the statement, Rockwell will work to develop advanced algorithms in the first year.
The second and third years will be allotted to conducting, validating and refining the algorithms through lab tests and demonstrations.

Do you know that some UAV's are meant to be tracked? It gives a lot of information about what kind of radars are used when and how. Very interesting for counter measures specialists.

Once your radars are jammed, expect the worst.

NO capaiblility? Do you know Soviet sell mig-21 fighter and tu-16 bomber technology to China in 1960s`, The soviet only give Chinese the 2/3 drawings and data of plane. According the model plane, China experts duplicate the mig-21 and tu-16 sucessfully, name J-7 and H6.

As defined by the online business dictionary.

capability
General: Measure of the ability of an entity (department, organization, person, system) to achieve its objectives, specially in relation to its overall mission.

So yes you could make one. I would be shocked if china could not. Aside from the comms suite everything on the RQ 170 was commercially available and not mil spec. It's stealth came from its shape and flight profile using altitude and terrain to its advantage.

So yes china could make one but china does not have the supporting infrastructure, systems doctrine etc. this fact is recognised by china and are rapidly playing catch up with the west it's still a 20 year task for them.

Yep and they will be on sale at Walmart with a free set of Ginsu knives for $29.99 by February.

We should give all our drones to Iran. Most of them have government jobs and make big salaries. Send a bunch of our politicians there and Iran will be begging for mercy.
