Of cource India Dosen''t have the technological Capabilitis Like Russia or USA has ...........Thats what is being tried to Fill by having Large numbers.

Indiat can't Push things like China does either...........China can push things faster because public money can be spent On whatever Government Wishes..........Lets face it because its a dictatorial state (if it seems a bit offencive ok Communist)................ India cannot do that.............being a democracy has it's own limitations.

India at the moment needs to concentrate on building up a strong economy while maintaining strong enough armed forces to deter China and others against any foolish Mis-Adventure.............. Once we build up our resources, we can then really push the military angle. ..........Just like the USA has done.

It took more that 150 years for USA to reach this Domrnation Position and USA had the priveledge to have peaceful borders at the developing Stage..

It's just been Around 50 years since Independence..........and around 20 to 30 years Ago before Any serious Improvement and Innovation started taking Place .

20-30 years is a very Small time .......Considering the odds I would say the progress done is Good

I believe the technological gulf between China/India and the US is still very big. When the F-22 comes out along with the JSF, the difference will be more evident.
Plus American warships simply outclass the Chinese counterparts by a huge margin.
Not to mention, the sea-land-air coordination capability of the US is ahead of everyone else, maybe with the exception of some Western European countries.
Though China and India's potential are very big, they're not exactly there yet. If for any reason a war broke out, the Americans would probably still win and all the most expensive works in those countries will be destroyed.

Remember guys, potential doesn't mean you're there. It means you *could* go there in the future. Anyone who plays or follows sports will know this. A youngster with potential seems really great... they flop on a pretty regular basis. They hadn't really gotten worse in most cases, they just never improved as much as people hoped for.
For countries that have super power potential, the ball is in their court and it's up to their efforts to fulfill the potential.

The Indian army is getting some nice technology from Russia right now though. However thier navy is pretty old none the less.

Umm, Iraq had state of the art weapons from Russia, their newest planes and tanks but we went in and destroyed them.

What we saw in iraq was not Russia's finest...well if it was 1960 it would be thier best.

1990 Was a peak period in Iraqi Defence when you might say they had some kind of Good technology in terms of Equipments and Numbers.

But By just acquiring smoe latest wepons dosen't mean they will remain latest .............you need to build on to that .

By the year 2000-2002 Most of their Aricrafts were Either Grownded or out of service...............Due to lack of Spares and Maintainence staff.

In 1990 they had around 16 Bombers, 390 Fighter/Attack By 2002 it ws redused to 6 Bombers 90 Fighter/Attack Aircrafts ............and they too had obsolete Weponary

They might have been Finest when they Aquired them But lack of Indeginious Development and Improving upon the technology Acuried and it becoms obsolute in no time .

Most of the rest of the world is scared to death that India and Pakistan can fire nukes at each other. Sure the US and Russia long have had that capability but they have no history of bloodshed between them. India and Pakistan do unfortunately. I was just watching "Ghandi" once again on Bravo and was reminded of how bloody they can be to each other. Really a damn shame and not the least of it because they are the same people - just seperated by religion and hatred for violence each has done the other. Wouldn't it be nice if they (and all mankind for that matter) could remember Ghandi's words "An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind".

Yeah that is a big problem. The Fcat both nations have nuclear weapons and both nations hate each other on a scale the USSR and USA did not.
