Since dangers of Nuclear Escalation are always there (although both sides focus on no-first strike policy) and world powers act as strong mediators like USA and Russia did in 2002. But time will tell!

The US is the only remaining formidable force which could have a significant effect in resolving any dispute like this IMO. However, India doesn't want any third party mediation in this case and the US recognizes the fact that both the countries involved are of much importance to it and doesn't wan to spoil its relations with any one of them if the talks go in favor of one and against the other. But things are not that bad especially during this past 1 year with peace initiatives undertaken by people from both the countries. I also think that the reason this deadlock exists is because both countries have formidable military capacities, I say this now as Pakistan has nuclear weapons too, and are not willing to accept the other's domination.

The Soviet invasion in Afghanistan, the Mujahideen guerilla war, Taliban, nukes, Kargil war, the war on terror. Its so much into focus, that now Bush knows who the President of Pakistan is. After 9/11 he could only mumble....General eh?...He only forgets the Indian Prime Minister, damn democracy you know! The Indo-Pak dispute can only be solved by both the nations, 3rd party help is of no use. It must be realised that feeding the hungry and development is more important than fighting over a principle of partition. The 'two nation' theory has been torn to shreds by the separation of East Pakistan. It is stupid to fight. Admin edit: Please do not post back to back, use the edit button instead. Thanks

| Tribunus Laticlavius | Disregarding who is right and who is wrong in the matter of Kashmir, I can't help but be very impressed with the fact that Pakistan has not been completely obliterated many years ago. Seriously, consider the odds based on shear population: India - population 1,065,070,607 VS Pakistan - population 153,705,278. Those odds are ugly! About ten to one in favor of India! The surprising thing is that Pakistan has not been completely wiped out at some point. No doubt, this has a lot to do with a degree of restraint on India's part, but I think the world tends to overlook or forget the disproportionate odds that Pakistan faces.

And I mentioned the facts that I understand about past 4 wars. Just read that post and you will see me not being Baised Though very few among us would do that (and as many among us will say that we won all the wars without looking at facts
