Post; Incident......

Way back in the roarin 70's, a strange thing happened in Philidelphia....

A few teenagers, walking along the street, notice a strange object on the sidewalk, it is brown, with an american flag and some fine print on it, and roughly the size and shape of a football. These kids, lacking their own football, decide to go to a vacant lot and play the American Game. Not once dropping the strange object, these kids play half an hour of football. Upon returning home, a poor father sees the object that his kids have brought. He asks, "What is this, and where did you all get it?" It was just resting on the sidewalk." "Eh, whatever, get to bed guys. The father was still concerned, however, upon seeing the flag of the U.S. Army, he calls the local recruitment center. He tells the Seargent in charge that he has a strange football, and reads the print saying the object belonged to the United States Army. The Seagent says he will send someone in the morning: a few hours later, when the National Gaurd Private turns up, he says he doesnt know what it is, and calls in the seagent, who upon seeing the object turns pale, and then backs out of the room.
several hours later, the entire philidelhpia bomb squad comes, and remove the object. Turns out that it was about three pounds of nitroglysterin, roughly the equal of a 500 pound AF precision bomb.

true story, actually happened, though it may be wrong with some of the details, turns out the thing fell out of the back of a army jeep

will finish this later

The Army doesn't carry around football sized nitro bombs or whatever it's supposed to be. Besides who the hell would send a National Guard recruiter private to investigate a bomb? The whole story sounds more than a little far fetched. Please provide your source for it.

Well, FWIW, a search on Snopes for "football bomb" turned up nothing...
