i think you shouldnt use such in-direct discriminatory words to describe the airmen of that plane

they were treated like tourists, cant complain about that
"The American crew made an emergency landing on China's Hainan Island. The crew members were taken to a hotel-like setting where they were well cared for, but not permitted to leave."

Tourists? That is how tourists are treated in China now adays, or at least back in 2001? They were not allowed to leave and the Chinese government used them as bargaining chips, sounds like hostages to me.
It's not like some chinese dude had them kneeling on the floor threatening to shoot them if one of them speaks. It was deffinately not a hostage type situation. If you were one of those airmen would you prefer a cell or hotel?

For some reason I highly doubt they were actually in a "hotle-like setting," maybe a $3 a night motel with a communal bathroom at the end of the hallway that was cleaned twice a month.

Dude the hotels here aren't that bad. I have stayed at over 50 in the last three years and the only complaint is sometimes you don't have a sit down toilet but each room has its own bathroom and they're clean. And the bed is ULTRA-firm but again clean though a lot smell of old rancid cigarette smoke.

I didn't know that Chinese treated the American pilots like hotel. I thought they abused them for lost the fighter chinese pilot. I remember few years ago, I seen their photo, some of the pilots got bruised and minor blood on their face.

None of those pilots or crew made any claim to being abused. They were injured when landing a crippled plane after a mid-air collision.

The incident certainly does provide us with a feel for the level of tension between the US and China. It seems there is a good amount of tension apparently.

do you believe that my father was a middle-school physical teacher, and the pilot lost in the accident is just once a student of my father?
my father still keep a pic when the boy graduated from the middle school.

Some things are best forgotten in the interest of "getting along" and being "friends", would you not agree?

Hey guys

America and China are already in a war, an economic war. And guess what, China is WINNING!! Just look at all the damn Wal-marts. This war might eventually become a shooting one, but not before they upgrade their military. And guess where China is getting the $$$$$ to pay for it. Actually, all they really have to do is stop stocking the Wal-marts. And that will be the end of us.
